Audiology Island is proud to be one of the very few clinics on Staten Island offering ABR testing for children and adults. ABR is a neurological test of auditory brainstem function in response to sound. ABR refers to an evoked potential generated by a click or tone presented to the ear. The resulting waveform response (which looks similar to an EKG on paper) is measured by electrodes and peaks are labeled. This test can provide information regarding auditory sensitivity. It can be used for newborn hearing screenings and identifying retrocochlear pathology. Your physician may request this test if you have asymmetrical hearing loss (different in each ear), unilateral hearing loss (hearing loss in only one ear), unilateral tinnitus (tinnitus in only one ear), poor word recognition scores, or a perceived distortion of sound when hearing is normal. We are committed to providing the most comprehensive hearing healthcare on Staten Island!
