Dr. Zhanneta Shapiro
Doctor of Audiology (AUD) CCC-A
Dr. Zhanneta Shapiro received her Masters of Science from Brooklyn College in 2005 and completed her Doctorate of Audiology from Florida University in May 2008. Her graduate training was in various hospitals in the tri-state area and a residency period completed at Ear Nose and Throat Associates of New York. Dr. Shapiro worked for 14 months at Hear USA conducting hearing aid evaluation, diagnosing hearing loss and dispensing of amplification for children and adults. She has utilized all the latest technology on everyday bases, to fit hearing aids in an objective manner for optimal communication potential. She started a group aural rehabilitation program at that center, providing support for those with hearing loss and their families. For the past 5 years, Dr. Zhanneta Shapiro has been a part of the NYU Langone Medical Center, where she was originally brought on for the purpose of the expansion of pediatric amplification services. Dr. Shapiro brought not only her expertise but a philosophy- counseling, and education about hearing health. Through a family centered approach and supportive counseling, Dr. Shapiro and her colleagues watched the center grow as she continuously helped the children reach their full communicative potential through a successful amplification process.
Currently, Dr. Shapiro is an adjunct Professor at the CUNY Graduate Center on the Brooklyn College campus, supervising the audiology clinic and providing guidance to doctoral level audiology students. In mid-2012, Dr. Shapiro joined forces with Dr. Stella Fulman, a long time friend, and the two audiologists founded Audiology Island. By bringing all the diagnostic experience from a top hospital in NY and a strong belief in the importance of patient education Dr. Shapiro can now devote more time and attention to her patients’ needs. She continues to play an important role in the life of her already established patients and is proud to bring the same gold standard of care to the wonderful borough of Staten Island.
