Dr. Stella Fulman
Dr. Stella Fulman, AU.D., CCC-A received her Bachelors and Masters degrees in Audiology from Brooklyn College in 2004 and her Doctorate of Audiology from Salus University in 2008. Dr. Fulman’s audiology career started working as a research assistant on a one million dollar grant FDA study. Post residency Dr. Fulman has worked at Hear USA on Staten Island. It is in this center that Dr. Fulman became well acquainted with the Staten Island Community. She became involved in the many community based programs and was an advocate for “healthy hearing”. Reaching out to various religious centers, schools, clinics and local libraries she met a lot of people and played a role in improving their quality of life through the use of most advanced amplification technology. Dr. Fulman then had a great opportunity to join one of the biggest Otolaryngology groups in NY State, ENT and Allergy, and was working alongside some of the most distinguished ENTs in the field. Being a part of such a large practice gave Dr. Fulman a chance to implement her philosophy- collaborating with physicians, therapists and other professionals all for the purpose of great patient care. It is only through this collaborative approach that patients can receive maximum benefit to their hearing health. Dr. Fulman’s diagnostic experience, knowledge and skill in fitting the latest hearing aid technology on even the most challenging patients, and a refreshing outlook of collaborative patient care, make her the audiologist that she is today. In 2012, together with Dr. Zhanneta Shapiro, Dr. Fulman founded Audiology Island – a unique clinic with a commitment to making quality hearing care on Staten Island, a medical necessity. Dr. Fulman continues to devote her time and efforts into patient advocacy, education regarding hearing services, utilization of amplification and other hearing products with all her patients -simply to improve their quality of life.
Dr. Zhanneta Shapiro
Dr. Shapiro worked for 14 months at Hear USA conducting hearing aid evaluation, diagnosing hearing loss and dispensing of amplification for children and adults. She has utilized all the latest technology on everyday bases, to fit hearing aids in an objective manner for optimal communication potential. She started a group aural rehabilitation program at that center, providing support for those with hearing loss and their families. For the past 5 years, Dr. Zhanneta Shapiro has been a part of the NYU Langone Medical Center, where she was originally brought on for the purpose of the expansion of pediatric amplification services. Dr. Shapiro brought not only her expertise but a philosophy- counseling, and education about hearing health. Through a family centered approach and supportive counseling, Dr. Shapiro and her colleagues watched the center grow as she continuously helped the children reach their full communicative potential through a successful amplification process. Currently, Dr. Shapiro is an adjunct Professor at the CUNY Graduate Center on the Brooklyn College campus, supervising the audiology clinic and providing guidance to doctoral level audiology students. In mid-2012, Dr. Shapiro joined forces with Dr. Stella Fulman, a long time friend, and the two audiologists founded Audiology Island. By bringing all the diagnostic experience from a top hospital in NY and a strong belief in the importance of patient education Dr. Shapiro can now devote more time and attention to her patients’ needs. She continues to play an important role in the life of her already established patients and is proud to bring the same gold standard of care to the wonderful borough of Staten Island.
